Works really well - even the night vision
Date: April 30, 2010
We have a 3 floor house with the nursery on the top floor. The range on the monitor allows us to get full reception even on the bottom floor. The night vision was impressive too - looks like a clear black & white picture. Audio is good and I especially like the visual light scale that lights up with the loudness of the noise so even with the sound turned off, I can still tell how loud the noises are.

Seen but not always heard
Date: April 22, 2010
Pro: We use this monitor for our two month old in a crowded apartment building in New York. The video is great, both day and night, which is what we got it for. We never pick up any other signal or have interference from another apartment. You can clearly see what baby is up to. The zoom and pan is also great. We are getting our son used to his new crib so sometimes he is in the bassinet and sometimes in the crib or falls asleep in his bouncer. I don't have to remember to move the camera. I just pan around the room until I see him.
Con: The microphone on this thing is very sensitive so you will pick up the sound of whatever is closest to it. For us its a clock on the same shelf as the camera. Because the baby is further away from the camera it does not pick up anything much below a real cry. As most parents figure out: if the kid is upset enough you can hear him without a monitor. We got the monitor so that we could check on him before he melts down. Also, if you live in the city there is lots of other noise. When we open the windows on a nice day, we hear the street traffic on the monitor too, causing a false alarm when a truck goes by. Also, with heavy video use, battery life is ok on the monitor, but could be better. I charge it every night, at least.
Overall: If you want to see your baby with ease, for example to see if he is asleep yet, or if he pulled his hat onto his face (which our son does a lot), this is great. If you just want to hear him, there may be a better (and cheaper) option out there.

Awesome

I purchased this monitor when it first came out, and I absolutely love it! I could honestly view anything in my daughters room. I wasn't sure how the "zoom" feature would work, but it is actually really good. I set it up so that it could zoom in close enough where I could see her belly moving up and down to make sure she was breathing. My only gripe about this monitor is that the battery life on it isn't very good. After about six months the monitor would die on me very fast. My daughter is almost ten months now, and I always have to have this monitor plugged in, which now defeatst he purpose of why I got it, for the wireless feature. I am being told that Summer is an AMAZING company, and they will replace your item if something is wrong with it. I just haven't had time to actually call. But I will soon!

We love it!

We would highly recommend this product. The pan/zoom feature is like none other that we've found. It helps us when our son moves around in the crib. We have the camera mounted to the wall in his room and we've had no problem with it. The range is not as long as the package indicates but it reaches all through our house and most of our yard outside.
I would also recommend purchasing a Summer product even if not this one. I dropped the monitor and the on/off button broke completely off. I called Summer directly and they were able to tell that I had purchased it within the last year (without a receipt) and they sent me a brand new one with minimal questions asked. I was very relieved to find this out!

Nice Idea Poor Execution
Date: December 28, 2009
This monitor has major flaws. The first and ultimate reason we returned it was the fact that it would not stay connected with the camera...displaying without any visual or audio warning (Out of Range) and freezing up. This happened when we were right in front of the camera or in another room. We called Summer and they said that it could be our wireless router and they emailed a copy of the channels that it runs on and simply instructed us to change our wireless channel. Before attempting this and risking messing up our internet connection, I simply unplugged the router and turned off our laptops. Still experienced the same problem and once again called back only this time I was told to remove and reinsert the battery and turn the monitor back on. Sounds simple enough except for the fact you have to unscrew the back to do this. (can you imagine doing this in the middle of the night). This corrected the problem for only a few minutes. Once I turned the monitor off and on again the problem persisted. Another issue is the fact that the sound is not clear, (especially compared to similarly priced monitors), instead it sounds like cheap recording device playback. If you have a 2.4 ghz phone/ wireless router this may not be the monitor for you, especially given what you will need to change in order to hopefully have the thing work. Lastly and another important consideration would be the fact that if there is signal interference or if for any reason the monitor loses connection to the camera base, there is no audio notification. So if in the middle of the night something happens with your baby, unless you are within earshot you will miss it, rendering your rather expensive monitor worthless. We ultimately ended up purchasing the Safety 1st Prism Digital. So far no interference and it has an audio alert if the connection fails also the sound/ audio is far greater. It does not allow you to pan around the room however, if the babies are out of the crib I would be checking on them regardless.

We couldn't decide between the analog monitor and the digital monitor. We are glad we went with the digital one! The pan and zoom feature is great. When our son moves around the crib during the night we can remotely move the camera to check on him and zoom in. The analog monitor did not have this feature. The night vision is as clear as day. We have 2.4GHZ phones and there is no interuption to the monitor. Our sons room is about 40ft from our room on the second floor through 3 walls and the picture is still crystal clear. The analog monitor had a slightly clearer picture on the in store display than the digital, but the pan and zoom feature by far makes up for it. We would highly recommend this product.
