The curved dual handles are thin so that little infant hands can really grip it. Babies open and close their hands a lot, but because of the two handles, your baby will drop this rattle a lot less. When they let go, their hand rests between the grips, so it doesn't fall as easily. Of course, it doesn't stop them from throwing it, but if they are laying on their back and just let go, they don't drop it, making it much more fun and less frustrating for them. My son loved it! We are expecting our second and it was the first toy I added to the registry.
