When this child lock is installed, the regular door lock becomes disabled. In order to keep the child out of the room while you are behind the closed door, you need to engage the child lock, which doesn't allow the door to open from inside the room, thereby allowing someone to get locked in.

great for a flush door!

We purchased this for our bathroom door but it did not work because the doorframe sticks out not allowing the door to shut. But works perfectly on our front door, where the door is flush with the frame!

Install it upside down

The installation is very easy and the price is right. We have 4 of these installed, but one of them got loose after a couple of months. Our 18 mo old son would hang on the lever, and the lock part would give. We were going to buy another one to replace it, but we read a review on another site suggesting to install it upside down (lock on top and the solid part on the bottom). We tried it and it works wonderfully!!!

easy to install and use!

i purchased this to keep my little ones from falling down the basement stairs in our kitchen. it took 2 min to install and the kids cant pull the lever to open the door. it is super easy to push and slide to release the lever when an adult wants to open the door! great product going to buy more!
